Georges Adéagbo and Otobong Nkanga

Lumen Travo is delighted to show selected works by Georges Adéagbo and Otobong Nkanga.

Adéagbo (1942, Cotonou, Benin) produces site-specific installations, in which he creates a relationship between his own personal history and the cultural and political history and current events related to the place where he is working. He will show works produced for Global Imaginations at Museum De Lakenhal in 2015, which were inspired by Lucas van Leyden’s “The Last Judgement”. Adéagbo’s works have been shown in documenta 11 and Museum Ludwig in Cologne, and form part of the permanent collections of Philadelphia Museum of Art, Toyota City Museum and KIASMA Helsinki.

Otobong Nkanga (Kano, Nigeria, 1974) presents her on-going multi-media investigations which observe social and topographical changes in her environment and the complex-ities that are embedded in these experiences. She explores how resources such as soil, earth, and its potential worth are subjected to regional and cultural scrutiny. For this show Nkanga presents photo-graphs from the “Alterscapes Playground series” (2006) and a new textile piece called “Steel to Rust – Segregation” (2016). Nkanga’s most notable shows include Nottingham Contemporary (2016), Portikus, Frankfurt (2015), Stedelijk Museum Schiedam (2015), M HKA, Anvers Museum, Anvers (2015), Kadist Foundation, Paris (2015).

The office space of Lumen Travo, will show works by Ibrahim Quraishi.
